  • Promote scholarship 
  • Build awareness of history of organization through new member program and chapter meetings 
  • Aid career goals 
  • Create events for new members to get to know one another and older members of the organization 
  • Set clear expectations that are publicly accessible for all new and initiated members  
  • Ask for and implement feedback provided by all members  
  • Outline accountability practices and ensure they are consistent across the board 
  • Foster open and honest communication  
  • Develop your members into leaders, whom you are proud to claim by focusing on their values, problem-solving skills, and future aspirations 
  • Celebrate accomplishments of your members 
  • Speak up! When you see something, say something 
  • Ask questions and be direct.

UF's Hazing Prevention Team includes interdisciplinary partners from Student Conduct & Conflict Resolution, GatorWell, Sorority and Fraternity Life, Office of Community and Belonging, University Athletic Association, the Division of Student Life, University of Florida Police Department, and UF Compliance and Ethics. Trainings:

UF’s Hazing prevention module is assigned to all new and transfer undergraduate students during their first semester. Completion of this training is required. Additionally, Students who register for Fraternity and Sorority Recruitment or hold leadership roles within Student Organizations are assigned specialized Hazing prevention training. This training is also mandatory.

Faculty and staff identified as Campus Security Authorities are required to complete annual Hazing prevention training as a part of their responsibilities.

 

Outreach Education

UF's Hazing prevention programming training for students, faculty, and staff includes:

  • An overview of UF's current Hazing policies
  • Instructions on how to report Hazing incidents to UF
  • A summary of UF's Hazing investigation process
  • Information on applicable local and state hazing laws
  • Hazing prevention strategies, which may include bystander intervention, ethical leadership, and methods for fostering group cohesion without Hazing

 

Hazing Prevention Week

What is Hazing Prevention Week?

  • Hazing Prevention Week is an annual event take takes place during the last week of September.
  • Time when communities, institutions, organizations, and individuals make a concerted effort to raise awareness and increase education about hazing.
